Starting out my career as a fine artist and museum worker in NYC, I combined my education in the fine arts and art history to branch out into architecture, restoration and building design. After moving to the Hudson Valley around 1990, my husband and I started Athens Architectural Workshop, specializing in authentically restoring old houses with, when necessary, historically compatible design elements. We also restored our own homes, a 19th century bank in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, an early 19th century Federal and an early 18th century Dutch stone house on the Hudson River, both in Athens, New York.
I have been attending workshops and seminars at Eastfield since moving upstate. Eastfield’s hands on approach, teaching by examining and replicating original techniques and learning to see the world through “old” eyes, has greatly influenced me in everything I do.
At Eastfield, physical crafts and thematic seminars are put into a cultural context which illuminate both the past and the present. The ability to learn from the foremost experts in their fields in an intellectually challenging and intimate 19th century setting makes Eastfield a unique and magical place.
Concurrently, as a Trustee at The Thomas Cole National Historic Site in Catskill, NY working on the recreation of the interiors and the multi media visitor experience, I have brought in many of the experts that I encountered at Eastfield to work on that site’s critically acclaimed restoration and interpretation.
As well as my involvement in the preservation arts, I currently curate art exhibits that juxtapose historical concepts with contemporary art. I received my B.A. from Brown University, was honored to be invited to attend the Yale Summer Art School, studied printmaking in the San Francisco Art Institute’s MFA program and worked at both the Whitney and Metropolitan Museums in NYC. I consider the many classes taken at Eastfield to be a part of my continuing education.
As an Eastfield Trustee since 2009, I look forward to seeing Eastfield continue to growand excel as a one of a kind learning environment.
