Robert Roemer
Board of Trustees, President
An engineer and project manager by profession, I have always had a strong interest in hand crafts and historic restoration including joinery, wooden boats, and blacksmithing. My wife and I restored our 1793 home in Bolton MA and subsequently relocated a timberframe barn to the property and reconstructed the blacksmith shop, the original of which had been moved to Old Sturbridge Village. Introducing people of all ages to hand crafts has been my primary focus since my retirement. I was introduced to Eastfield Village through EAIA “Sampler” workshops in 2009 by Judy and Billy McMillen and have attended classes since then whenever practical, eventually being invited to join the Board in 2020 and elected President in 2022.
My desire to work with the Historic Eastfield Foundation reflects both its mission of learning about history in a historical environment and by a broadside printed at the Village in a 2009 workshop: “The difference between learning how things were done….and how to do them.” My professional experience as an engineer and project manager brings organizational skills to help build the foundation as it transitions sustainably from its founders’ leadership to a sustainable growing organization in their vision.
