Hand-Making 18th and 19th Century House Paints
September 7th - 8th 2024
Limited to 8 Students
Participants will make multiple types of housepaint (oil-based, limewash, and distemper), using traditional materials and methods. Paints will be ground on a muller and slab, as well as in a paint mill. Materials will include: linseed oil, animal glue, dry pigments, and chalk. Students will also learn about historic brushes and brushing techniques.

Erika Sanchez Goodwillie
Studied Preservation Carpentry at the North Bennet Street School. Since 2009 she has made and installed paint for period-specific restorations in historic homes and museums.
Christopher Mills
Principal of Christopher Mills Conservation, specializing in architectural conservation and recreation of 18th and 19th century interior finishes using traditional methods.
