This is a class in basic skills needed to cook in the Open Hearth and an introduction to baking in the Brick Oven. Students will prepare and cook food using period recipes and modern recipes. They will be able to take what they learn in this class and use the techniques when cooking over an open fire.

This workshop runs concurrently with our Blacksmithing Kitchen Utensils class, so consider teaming up with a partner or friend to learn either program, and stay together at Eastfield Village.

Gwen Miner

She has been hearth cooking for more than 35 years. As staff interpreter at the Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown NY, she led numerous workshops on hearth skills & period cooking.
